E-book – new services

As the ebooks universe continue to evolve unabated it is a challenge for librarians to keep up with e-news regarding new technologies & tools, formats,   ebook production technology, and subscription platforms. Paula Hane does a great job of keeping us up to date wtih the latest trends and challenges. In here latest article Expanding Options for Ebooks she identifies recently launched services:

Bilbary—an online paid-for library offering 350,000 titles that enables readers to log in and download books onto their computers, phones, or tablets.

Booktype and Inkling Habitat –  Two publishing platforms which allow multiple authors to collaborate on a joint book project.

Vook  a cloud-based ebook production and distribution software that allows users to embed images, videos, and other multimedia to create enhanced ebooks

Bookboon.com, which originates from Denmark  is focused on publishing education-related books for business professionals and students. In 2005, the company made a strategic leap and became the “first book publishing company in the world to focus 100% on free ebooks.”
